I'm always intrigued by how we try to [[recreate physical spaces digitally,]] and how the constraints of the software medium leaves its footprint. On a personal level I also have a romanticized view of nightlife, though I probably only have this type of night like six times a year at this point in my life. I think it gives people of all ages, but young people especially, avenues for exploration and reinvention - to understand their image and identity, to shape their tastes, to make friends, to fall in love over and over again. It's a ton of fun to imagine being able to have a night out and control your auditory experience with the slider controls. What comes to mind, what matters to you most when you think about those magical nights out - do you turn your friends' chatter to 100, or are you there for the dancing and the DJ's beats, or is it the whir of the city that gets you going, that ***brings you back to that place**. I can imagine that the creator might be nostalgic for their local joint, and that it's since been cannibalized by a gastropub with no point of view, or a Starbucks, or perhaps it still stands but has been descended upon by the influencer horde and is simply unrecognizable. (Just looked it up and the creator *is* the local joint, so this is more like an ad. Oh well.) specific things I like about this website. * The way its constructed for your eye to be drawn to the bar as a focal point * the whitespace surrounding the bar * the linework and angles on the bar illustration * the soundscape is the point * a minimalist color palette (creamy warm beige, something like `#E8E0D0`, black type and linework, feels like a page out of a book, just a hint of light greenish blue / turquoise for the bar illustration) was selected event though bars are very visually chaotic * the carefully curated Spotify playlist - I adore Latin Indie and Natalia Lafourcade * the audio sliders let you tweak the bar sounds * the quirky character of the typeface chosen for the I Miss My Bar heading * eeeeeeek don't come for me typeface designers I'm sure I'll get the anatomy wrong but the characters have a pretty large horizontal width, the serifs and the characters in general (look at the a, the legs on the M, serifs on the s, whatever the heck the curves on the B are called) are quite angled, and it's a heavy weight, maybe 700-800? would be. once again I say it kinda feels editorial. What's the move here? The illustrated scene in the middle of the page with audio controls helping you to recreate the experience. Could use it for so many things with unique sounds, a house party, a ball game, a wedding, etc.
