![[Screen Shot 2022-08-25 at 8.36.34 PM.png]] #### Watching/Listening/Video Immersion ##### Main Drivers - Gran Hotel S2 - Comprehension varies a bit. I'm finding that most episodes I can understand nearly everything (maybe around 95%) with the subtitles on, save for occasional unfamiliar words or phrases. However, every now and then there's an episode where I will frequently have entire sentences and/or scenes where I don't understand several words OR I understand all the words individually but can't make sense of what they mean. The grammar is a bit different from what I'm used to given that it's a period piece. BTW I love this show. - Mundo Zamba - I watched the first ep of Mundo Zamba a while ago and while I could kinda follow the gist overall i found it a little too difficult to truly enjoy. This time around I've been watching it and can understand way more, probably hovering around 80-90% of it. Sometimes the songs are difficult. Overall I'm enjoying this show a lot. ##### Others - Ratatouille dub - hysterical. Don't think you've truly experienced Ratatouille until you've watched a French rat prance around Paris speaking Spanish - El camino de Xico - cute, for kids, kind of bad. It being bad has nothing to do with it being for kids. #### Reading - Olly Richards - would highly recommend these, they're pretty enjoyable - Short Stories in Spanish for Beginners: Vol 2 - Short Stories in Spanish for Intermediate Learners - Started Las aventuras de Txano y Oscar but got bored - Reading several webtoons (most seem translated) - Waiting for Memorias de Idhun comics in the mail - I don't think I have the endurance yet to read novels in Spanish so gonna work through more webtoons/comics and Olly's philosophy in Spanish one, before looking at some novels #### Active/Pure Listening/Podcast Immersion - Spanish Language Coach Intermediate Podcast - have said this before but I really like this podcast. Cesar speaks so clearly, I enjoy when he has guests, the topics are interesting enough, and the podpcast length is perfect! #### Anki In previous check-in I discussed potentially alternating between reading heavy and listening heavy days, this hasn't really happened and I prob won't try to force it. Finding it more enjoyable to just do whatever I feel like, which on most days is a mix of both! Typically I'll watch two episodes of Gran Hotel and sentence mine it. Sometimes at lunch I'll read an Olly Richards graded reader or webtoon or watch a Mundo Zamba episode. Usually before bed I read webtoons. Something I've been thinking about lately is if/when I should try to immerse solely with a certain accent. If I even know what accent I want to eventually pursue. Originally I was thinking Mexican - lots of content to choose from, I'm from the USA and more likely to come into contact with Latin American Spanish speakers vs Spain Spanish speakers, I think it sounds cool. But lately been watching a lot of Gran Hotel (Spain), listening to Spanish Language Coach (Spain), and watching Mundo Zamba (Argentinian). And I really prefer to allow the content interests to guide my immersion, so I don't know. I also know that my comprehension is getting pretty good, and by this time a lot of language learners (Refold or otherwise) will have been outputting already. And...I...am LAZY. I probably could try to output now but I just don't feel like it, and technically Refold doesn't recommend it until stage 3, higher comprehension. I want to figure out a Kindle Migaku setup so I can do better sentence mining while reading. I suppose this isn't 100% necessary, with Migaku it's super easy to even sentence mine manually, but it'd be nice. Up Next - Finish Gran Hotel S3 active immersion - Think what (if any) series to watch next - For free flow immersion watch whatever I feel like - Mundo Zamba, vloggers, rewatches of stuff I've watched before - Read webtoons and Memorias of Idhun comics - Start getting into short stories and maybe novels after I finish those --- Created: August 25, 2022 Last Modified: August 25, 2022
