Tags: #literature #dough I like this concept Packy describes as the knot in the middle. When you look at the polarization in today's media, there are two extremes, and certain actors tugging on the ends of the rope, at both extremes. In the middle, there is a knot, which Packy explains is the Overton Window - "the range of policies or ideas that are politically acceptable at any given time". He explains that Vitalik's selective, intentional techno-optimistic Defensive/Decentralized/Democratic Accelerationism (d/acc) is the knot in the middle. The Overton Window to the extremes of Yudkowsky's anti-AI doomsdaying Effective Altruism (EA) and Andreesen's pro-AI, overly techno-optimistic, unchecked, Effective Accelerationism (e/acc). I am in agreement with Packy and prefer to focus on that knot in the middle. Unfortunately, the extremes, the tuggers get way too much visibility. Whether you in agree with them or not, the extremes are what elicit passionate, visceral reactions and therefore tend to proliferate in the media. However, I have a renewed appreciation, or at least understanding, of their purpose - to shift the knot in the middle, the Overton Window, and therefore, the mainstream narrative.
