It's funny how life works out sometimes. --- **September 7, 2021** A San Diego trip with the boyfriend that made me think. we went from [[2021-08-16]] to [[2021-08-22]]. We enjoyed being free and being away from home. We traipsed around Balboa Park, admiring the gardens and Spanish architecture. ![[san_diego_prado.jpg]] ![[san_diego_prado_theater.jpg]] We strolled down the Embarcadero and explored Seaport Village. We watched Tangled on the Grand Hyatt's rooftop. ![[san_diego_me.jpg]] ![[san_diego_me_bf.jpg]] We kayaked at La Jolla coves and hiked on the beach at Torrey Pines, way too close to high tide. ![[san_diego_torrey_pines.jpg]] ![[san_diego_torrey_pines_highway.jpg]] ![[san_diego_beach_hike.jpg]] We enjoyed the gorgeous Hotel del Coronado. Indulged on a boujee dinner at swanky Animae ft. A5 wagyu. ![[san_diego_coronado_bank.jpg]] ![[san_diego_hotel_coronado.jpg]] ![[san_diego_coronado_beach.jpg]] Scarfed down fish tacos and quesadillas as the clouds bid us good night at Sunset Cliffs. ![[san_diego_sunset_cliffs.jpg]] ![[san_diego_sunset_cliffs_birds.jpg]] My cousin drove us around in her BMW and bought us ice cream sandwiches and we watched surfers ride the waves at Pacific Beach. ![[san_diego_tacos.jpg]] ![[san_diego_bmw.jpg]] We delighted in the vibes of our Little Italy airbnb, and were sorry to say goodbye for now. ![[san_diego_road.jpg]] ![[san_diego_ciao.jpg]] We did all these things, and yet...perhaps the things we enjoyed the most were not pictured here. There's a certain beauty in the simple domestic joys that we, in a long distance relationship, do not take for granted, and perhaps enjoy more than any of our other (mis)adventures. Sleepily cuddling on the couch at the end of the night. Watching To All the Boys I've Loved Before and Superbad together after a long day out. Me washing his wet clothes in the sink. Him cleaning and drying my muddy sneakers. Waking up early in the morning to go to the bathroom, then crawling back into bed, and nestling contentedly in his embrace. We travel well together. We argued once. Due to a combination of lack of planning and miscommunication and indecision from both of us, we got heated when figuring out where to eat on Coronado Beach. But after he decided where to eat and we walked to the poke place, we made up, talked through our differences, recognized that our tempers ran high because we were tired and hot. Over and done with within 30 min. At the end of the trip Southwest cancelled our second leg from Dallas to NYC due to inclement weather in NYC. Vestiges of a hurricane or something. The Atlantic acting up again (never mind the fact that every other airline was still flying into LGA except Southwest! 😡). Although it was frustrating to incur an overnight stay, reroute to DC, then take the train to NYC...it was almost fun. Because we got an extra night together in a hotel on Chase's dime. Because he was calm the whole way through. Steady. Even when I fucked up our Amtrak tickets. From others in my life I am accustomed to being berated over the gravity of such an offense. But never ever from him. When we got back and fleshed out our trip spreadsheet with the final trip report and all the expenses, while he adjusted the calculations, he mentioned that maybe, as we do more trips, we can make GRAPHS. And in that moment I prayed to marry this man. --- Created: December 02, 2022 Last Modified: December 02, 2022
